“我要将暗中的宝物.赐给你。”（赛45：3）
在比京勃鲁赛尔（Brussels）有几家着名的花边店，他们有几间特别的房间，专门为纺织最精致，最优美的花边用的。这些房间是全黑的，只从一扇极小的窗外射进一线日光来，这一线日光恰正照在花样上面。引导我们参观的那位告诉我们说：“最上等的出产就是这样得到的。最优美的花边，都是工人坐在黑暗中织成的。”
我们不也这样么？有时，环境非常黑暗。我们自己也不能明白我们到底在作什么。我们看不见我们自己所织的东西。我们看不见一点美丽，一点好处。但是如果我们忠忠心心作去，不沮丧，不失望，有一天我们就要看见我们生命中最精美的工作，乃是在黑暗中作成的。
亲爱的，如果你正在黑暗中，不要惧怕。只要凭信心和爱心前进，切勿怀疑。神必从你一切痛苦和眼泪中找出良善和美丽来。——密勒

| Indeed, you are our glory and joy. | |

| 1 | 我们既然不能再忍下去，就决定留在雅典， |
| So when we could stand it no longer, we thought it best to be left by ourselves in Athens. | |

| We sent Timothy, who is our brother and God's fellow worker in spreading the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, | |

| 3 | 免得有人在各样的患难中动摇了。你们自己知道，我们受患难原是命定的。 |
| so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. You know quite well that we were destined for them. | |
| このような苦難の中にあっても、だれも動揺することがないようにするためでした。あなたがた自身が知っているとおり、私たちはこのような苦難にあうように定められているのです。 | |
| 4 | 我们在你们那里的时候，早已对你们说过，我们将会遭受患难。后来应验了，这是你们知道的。 |
| In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know. | |

| 5 | 因此，我既然不能再忍下去，就派人去打听你们的信心怎样；恐怕那试探人的诱惑了你们，以致我们的劳苦白费了。 |
| For this reason, when I could stand it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith. I was afraid that in some way the tempter might have tempted you and our efforts might have been useless. | |
| そういうわけで、私ももはや耐えられなくなって、あなたがたの信仰の様子を知るために、テモテを遣わしたのです。それは、誘惑する者があなたがたを誘惑して、私たちの労苦が無駄にならないようにするためでした。 | |

| But Timothy has just now come to us from you and has brought good news about your faith and love. He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also long to see you. | |

| 7 | 所以弟兄们，我们在这一切困苦患难中，因着你们的信心就得了安慰。 |
| Therefore, brothers, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of your faith. | |

| 8 | 如果你们在主里站立得稳，我们就可以活下去了。 |
| For now we really live, since you are standing firm in the Lord. | |

| 9 | 我们因你们的缘故，在我们的 神面前满有喜乐；为这一切喜乐，我们可以为你们向 神献上怎么样的感谢呢！ |
| How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you? | |

| 10 | 我们昼夜迫切祈求，要见你们的面，并且要补满你们信心的不足。 |
| Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking in your faith. | |

| 11 | 愿我们的父 神自己和我们的主耶稣为我们开路，使我们可以到你们那里去。 |
| Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus clear the way for us to come to you. | |

| May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. | |

| 13 | 也愿他坚定你们的心，好叫你们在我们主耶稣和众圣徒再来的时候，在我们的父 神面前，完全圣洁，无可指摘。 |
| May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones. | |

| 1 | 此外，弟兄们，我们在主耶稣里求你们，劝你们，你们既然接受了我们的教训，知道应该怎样行事为人，并且怎样讨 神喜悦，就要照你们现在所行的更进一步。 |
| Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. | |
| 最後に兄弟たち。主イエスにあってお願いし、また勧めます。あなたがたは、神に喜ばれるためにどのように歩むべきかを私たちから学び、現にそう歩んでいるのですから、ますますそうしてください。 | |
| 2 | 我们凭着主耶稣传给你们的是甚么命令，你们是知道的。 |
| For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. | |
| 私たちが主イエスによって、どのような命令をあなたがたに与えたか、あなたがたは知っています。 | |
| 3 | 神的旨意是要你们圣洁，远避淫行； |
| It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; | |

| 4 | 要你们各人晓得怎样用圣洁尊贵的方法保守自己的身体（“身体”原文作“器皿”）； |
| that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, | |
| 一人ひとりがわきまえて、自分のからだを聖なる尊いものとして保ち、 | |
| 5 | 不要放纵邪情私欲，像那些不认识 神的外族人一样； |
| not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; | |
| 神を知らない異邦人のように情欲におぼれず、 | |
| 6 | 谁也不要在这事上越轨，占弟兄的便宜，因为这一类的事，主必报应。这是我们从前告诉过你们，又严严警戒过你们的。 |
| and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. | |
| また、そのようなことで、兄弟を踏みつけたり欺いたりしないことです。私たちが前もってあなたがたに話し、厳しく警告しておいたように、主はこれらすべてのことについて罰を与える方だからです。 | |
| 7 | 神呼召我们，不是要我们沾染污秽，而是要我们圣洁。 |
| For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. | |

| 8 | 所以那弃绝这命令的，不是弃绝人，而是弃绝把他自己的圣灵赐给你们的那位 神。 |
| Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. | |

| Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. | |

| And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more. | |

| 11 | 又要立志过安静的生活，办自己的事，亲手作工，正如我们从前吩咐过你们， |
| Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, | |
| また、私たちが命じたように、落ち着いた生活をし、自分の仕事に励み、自分の手で働くことを名誉としなさい。 | |
| 12 | 使你们行事为人可以得到外人的尊敬，自己也不会有甚么缺乏了。 |
| so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. | |

| 13 | 弟兄们，论到睡了的人，我们不愿意你们不知道，免得你们忧伤，像那些没有盼望的人一样。 |
| Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. | |
| 眠っている人たちについては、兄弟たち、あなたがたに知らずにいてほしくありません。あなたがたが、望みのない他の人々のように悲しまないためです。 | |
| 14 | 我们若信耶稣死了，又复活了，照样，也应该相信那些靠着耶稣已经睡了的人， 神必定把他们和耶稣一同带来。 |
| We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. | |

| According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. | |

| 16 | 因为主必亲自从天降临，那时，有发令的声音，有天使长的呼声，还有 神的号声，那些在基督里死了的人必先复活； |
| For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. | |
| すなわち、号令と御使いのかしらの声と神のラッパの響きとともに、主ご自身が天から下って来られます。そしてまず、キリストにある死者がよみがえり、 | |
| 17 | 然后，我们还活着存留的人，必和他们一同被提到云里，在空中与主相会。这样，我们就要和主常常同在。 |
| After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. | |
| それから、生き残っている私たちが、彼らと一緒に雲に包まれて引き上げられ、空中で主と会うのです。こうして私たちは、いつまでも主とともにいることになります。 | |
| 18 | 所以，你们应该用这些话彼此劝慰。 |
| Therefore encourage each other with these words. | |

| 1 | 弟兄们，论到时候和日期，不用写甚么给你们了。 |
| Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, | |
| 兄弟たち。その時と時期については、あなたがたに書き送る必要はありません。 | |
| 2 | 因为你们自己清楚知道，主的日子来到，就像夜间的贼来到一样。 |
| for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. | |
| 主の日は、盗人が夜やって来るように来ることを、あなたがた自身よく知っているからです。 | |
| 3 | 人正在说平安稳妥的时候，毁灭性的灾祸就突然临到他们，好象生产的痛苦临到怀胎的妇人一样，他们绝不能逃脱。 |
| While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. | |
| 人々が「平和だ、安全だ」と言っているとき、妊婦に産みの苦しみが臨むように、突然の破滅が彼らを襲います。それを逃れることは決してできません。 | |
| 4 | 但是弟兄们，你们不在黑暗里，以致那日子会临到你们像贼来到一样。 |
| But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. | |
| しかし、兄弟たち。あなたがたは暗闇の中にいないので、その日が盗人のようにあなたがたを襲うことはありません。 | |
| 5 | 你们都是光明之子、白昼之子；我们不是属于黑夜的，也不是属于黑暗的。 |
| You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. | |
| あなたがたはみな、光の子ども、昼の子どもなのです。私たちは夜の者、闇の者ではありません。 | |
| 6 | 所以，我们不要沉睡像别人一样，总要警醒谨慎。 |
| So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. | |
| ですから、ほかの者たちのように眠っていないで、目を覚まし、身を慎んでいましょう。 | |
| 7 | 因为睡觉的人是在晚上睡，醉酒的人是在晚上醉； |
| For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. | |
| 眠る者は夜眠り、酔う者は夜酔うのです。 | |
| 8 | 但我们既然属于白昼，就应当谨慎，披上信和爱的胸甲，戴上救恩的盼望作头盔。 |
| But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. | |
| しかし、私たちは昼の者なので、信仰と愛の胸当てを着け、救いの望みというかぶとをかぶり、身を慎んでいましょう。 | |
| 9 | 因为 神不是定意要我们受刑罚（“刑罚”原文作“忿怒”），而是要我们借着我们的主耶稣基督得着救恩。 |
| For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. | |
| 神は、私たちが御怒りを受けるようにではなく、主イエス・キリストによる救いを得るように定めてくださったからです。 | |
| 10 | 基督替我们死，使我们无论是醒着或睡着，都和他一同活着。 |
| He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. | |
| 主が私たちのために死んでくださったのは、私たちが、目を覚ましていても眠っていても、主とともに生きるようになるためです。 | |
| 11 | 所以，你们应该彼此劝慰，互相造就，正如你们一向所行的。 |
| Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. | |
| ですからあなたがたは、現に行っているとおり、互いに励まし合い、互いを高め合いなさい。 | |
| 12 | 弟兄们，我们求你们要敬重那些在你们中间劳苦的人，就是在主里面治理你们、劝戒你们的人。 |
| Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. | |
| 兄弟たち、あなたがたにお願いします。あなたがたの間で労苦し、主にあってあなたがたを指導し、訓戒している人たちを重んじ、 | |
| 13 | 又因为他们的工作，你们要用爱心格外尊重他们。你们应当彼此和睦。 |
| Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. | |
| その働きのゆえに、愛をもって、この上ない尊敬を払いなさい。また、お互いに平和を保ちなさい。 | |
| 14 | 弟兄们，我们劝你们，要警戒游手好闲的人，勉励灰心丧志的人，扶助软弱无力的人，也要容忍所有的人。 |
| And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. | |
| 兄弟たち、あなたがたに勧めます。怠惰な者を諭し、小心な者を励まし、弱い者の世話をし、すべての人に対して寛容でありなさい。 | |
| 15 | 你们要注意，不管是谁都不要以恶报恶，却要在彼此相处和对待众人这方面，常常追求良善。 |
| Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. | |
| だれも、悪に対して悪を返さないように気をつけ、互いの間で、またすべての人に対して、いつも善を行うように努めなさい。 | |
| 16 | 要常常喜乐， |
| Be joyful always; | |
| いつも喜んでいなさい。 | |
| 17 | 不住祷告， |
| pray continually; | |
| 絶えず祈りなさい。 | |
| 18 | 凡事谢恩；这就是 神在基督耶稣里给你们的旨意。 |
| give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. | |
| すべてのことにおいて感謝しなさい。これが、キリスト・イエスにあって神があなたがたに望んでおられることです。 | |
| 19 | 不要熄灭圣灵的感动。 |
| Do not put out the Spirit's fire; | |
| 御霊を消してはいけません。 | |
| 20 | 不要藐视先知的话语。 |
| do not treat prophecies with contempt. | |
| 預言を軽んじてはいけません。 | |
| 21 | 凡事都要察验，好的要持守， |
| Test everything. Hold on to the good. | |
| ただし、すべてを吟味し、良いものはしっかり保ちなさい。 | |
| 22 | 各样的恶事要远离。 |
| Avoid every kind of evil. | |
| あらゆる形の悪から離れなさい。 | |
| 23 | 愿赐平安的 神亲自使你们完全成圣，又愿你们整个人：灵、魂和身体都得蒙保守，在我们的主耶稣基督再来的时候，无可指摘。 |
| May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. | |
| 平和の神ご自身が、あなたがたを完全に聖なるものとしてくださいますように。あなたがたの霊、たましい、からだのすべてが、私たちの主イエス・キリストの来臨のときに、責められるところのないものとして保たれていますように。 | |
| 24 | 那呼召你们的是信实的，他必成就这事。 |
| The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it. | |
| あなたがたを召された方は真実ですから、そのようにしてくださいます。 | |
| 25 | 弟兄们，请为我们祷告。 |
| Brothers, pray for us. | |
| 兄弟たち、私たちのためにも祈ってください。 | |
| 26 | 要用圣洁的亲吻问候众弟兄。 |
| Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. | |
| すべての兄弟たちに、聖なる口づけをもってあいさつをしなさい。 | |
| 27 | 我凭着主吩咐你们，要把这封信读给众弟兄听。 |
| I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers. | |
| この手紙をすべての兄弟たちに読んで聞かせるよう、私は主によって堅く命じます。 | |
| 28 | 愿我们主耶稣基督的恩惠与你们同在。 |
| The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. | |
| 私たちの主イエス・キリストの恵みが、あなたがたとともにありますように。 |
